about

'we’re never not moving in space' is a collection of songs spanning from 2015 to 2022. They are memories, both joyful and difficult, living under the same roof. They are small, ephemeral moments, memorialised. They are the experiences that make up the person we know as “Madeleine.” She has built us a time capsule, willingly sharing it with us rather than burying it in the backyard. Each track is its own meaningful object, thoughtfully selected and arranged with intention, one building upon the other, adding more information while leaving just enough room for your own memories to slide in. Tracks like 'ox-bow' and 'in transit' teleport me to a compound memory of sitting on a porch or in a field on a lazy summer day, before the unbearably hot part of the summer strikes, the part when the breeze gently grazes your skin and reminds you of how wonderful it can be to have a body. The moody guitar and punching baselines on 'paolo' and 'blindsight' function like a hammer to a nail, embedding themselves deeper with each repeated note, not unlike the way the lyrics for 'commemoration' and 'unit 1,' combined with Aguilar’s angelic vocals, circle you like a trusted mantra. On each track, Aguilar uses repetition as if it were an instrument of its own, a tool, if you will, creating tangibility to what is inherently intangible, which is why it is no surprise that her first recorded record can stand upright, on its own two legs.
