Blending modular synthesis, analog hardware, live percussion, and studio manipulation, A Single Ocean's debut features twelve self-recorded tracks culled from several years of collaborative experimentation.
The songs hover between spontaneity and design, with longform improvisations reimagined through cut-and-paste edits and collage-minded layering. The results feel at once organic and methodical, with nods to influences ranging from Fourth World and classical minimalism to Japanese ambient and German kosmische musik.
ABOUT A SINGLE OCEAN:
A Single Ocean includes multi-instrumentalists Cameron Brand, Scott McGaughey, and Christopher Schreck. Longtime friends from years spent in Chicago's experimental music community, the trio formally began working together in 2018, when they teamed up to produce McGaughey's solo record "You Don't Need A Key To Leave." Following that album's completion, they turned their focus to crafting new material under the ASO moniker.
